Welcome to the Bartholomew County Public Library! We are so glad you are here to enjoy our space. We believe we are a wonderful place for you and your family to learn, play, and grow with one another.

What we can provide for you:

  • Spaces to play: Our children’s department has a variety of play spaces for children from infants to tweens, including blocks, puzzles, and a puppet theater. These provide a great opportunity for parents and children to bond with one another! We also have board games available for in-library use (ask at the desk).

  • Spaces to eat: If your family needs to eat during your visit, that’s not a problem! We have several food-friendly areas in the library, including the tables in the center of the center of the children’s department (with the colorful chairs) and in the lower level reception area (near the stairs). We simply ask that you be mindful of our library materials (don’t eat with our books or toys), and that you clean up after yourselves.

  • Spaces to visit with one another: We have tables, chairs, couches, and other cozy seating available for you to cuddle up and read, talk, or otherwise visit with your child(ren). Please be mindful of the space you choose to use – while you are welcome to use the entire library, the children’s department is much more suited to chatter and noise than the rest of the building! We also have several meeting rooms that can be reserved for private use.Family-friendly programs for a variety of ages: Pick up a program guide or ask at the children’s desk to learn more about our many storytime and other program opportunities! We offer 7 storytimes a week, as well as craft programs, STEAM programs, and more.

  • Books and other learning resources: We have a wide range of books and materials for children to enjoy, from picture books to early learning computer stations. We also have books geared towards parents and parenting in our Special Collection. Ask a librarian for recommendations, or for helping finding specific items. We’re always happy to help!

Please also visit our About the Children's Department page for more information about department policies and practices.

*If you are a case worker who regularly attends supervised visits, or if you are interested in learning more about our space and what we can offer, please feel free contact us or to stop by the Children’s Desk – we would love to talk to you!
