Pack your bags for the Reading Roadtrip!
Summer is nearly here, and we are once again bringing a fun summer learning experience to Bartholomew County!
Join us from June 1 to July 25 as we celebrate lifelong learning in and around our community.
Why should I participate?
It’s fun! You can learn and earn prizes at the same time, including books, coupons, and raffle entries. You can also earn digital badges to keep track of your accomplishments and share them with your friends and family members. Participants who complete the program earn a free themed library t-shirt or tote bag!
How does the program work?
The goal of the Summer Reading Program is simple: to reward participants for getting into the habit of reading. It’s one thing to read a lot during a short time frame (for instance, summer); it’s an even better thing to read each day, and establish a habit that lasts over time. Whether you choose to log minutes, pages, books, or a combination of all three, you will earn a point for each day that you log any amount of reading. Individually, your goal is to read something - or participate in eligible activities - most of the days in the program. If you like, you can set a personal goal for how much you would like to read each day (minutes, books, or pages) - but that’s not required.
What do I need to do to participate and earn points/prizes?
You can earn points in two ways: reading books, and participating in fun activities in and around the community. Every time you read or complete an activity, log it online or in the Beanstack app for points!
For each day that you log reading - in any amount - you will earn 1 point. You can also earn points for completing activities - smaller activities are worth 1 point, and more involved activities, such as attending a library program, are worth 5 points. Prizes are awarded at increasing intervals to encourage ongoing participation and build ongoing reading habits.
To help you get started, we are giving you your first prize - a free book - just for registering for the program! Stop by any library location and pick it out starting June 1.
Prize #1 - Free book (0 points required, awarded for registration!)
Prize #2 - Souvenir or coupon (5 points required)
Prize #3 - Souvenir, coupon, or book (15 points required)
Prize #4 - Souvenir or coupon (30 points required)
Prize #5 - Choice of Summer Reading T-Shirt or Tote Bag (45 points required)
How do I sign up?
Starting May 1, pre-register online at mybcpl.beanstack.org to create a Beanstack account. (If you are using a mobile device, we highly recommend downloading the Beanstack app to do this!) Add as many readers to your account as you like, and then select the 2026 Summer Reading Program from your available challenges. The challenge opens on June 1, so if you are registering early, set a reminder for yourself to log back in on June 1 to start logging your reading and earning points!
Patrons who do not wish to track their participation online can participate by requesting a paper reading log from any library staff member. Simply mark each day that you read and each library program you attend, and return it to any library location when you are finished. Screen-free logs must be returned by July 25 in order to earn prizes.
⭐ The last day to log reading is July 25. All prizes must be picked up by August 8. ⭐
