The Main Library in downtown Columbus currently has a full-time job opening for an Outreach Assistant to help with the operations of the Bookmobile. This job entails providing welcoming customer service to Bookmobile patrons of all ages by checking in/out library materials, helping patrons find books that appeal to them, placing and retrieving holds, answering questions about patrons' accounts, helping with shelving and organization of books, and keeping the Bookmobile tidy and inviting. This job also requires the candidate to learn how to drive the Bookmobile when the Outreach Manager is unable to do so. Comfort with driving a large vehicle around the entire county is required. The Bookmobile goes to many rural as well as urban stops, covering every corner of the county. The person in this position may also occasionally help on the Book Express. Although the hours will mostly be daytime hours from 8:00 to 5:00, there will be occasional weekend and evening hours for special events. We are looking for a candidate that has earned their High School Diploma or GED, has no prior driving infractions and a valid driver's license, has a positive customer service attitude, and has the necessary schedule availability.
